# Updating to the Latest Version
This guide covers how to update the ePanicButton desktop client on workstations to the latest version.
**Current version: available at HERE.
---
## Before You Start
- You must have **administrator rights** on each workstation being updated.
- Download the latest installer from **https://dash.epanicbutton.com/downloads/** before you begin.
- The **Batch File method** (Method A) is recommended — it handles the update silently with fewer steps.
---
## Method A — Batch File (Recommended)
This method is faster for updating multiple workstations and requires less manual interaction.
1. Download the latest `.exe` installer from **https://dash.epanicbutton.com/downloads/**
2. Download and Unzip the file named `ePanicButtonUpdate.zip`
3. Place both the `.exe` installer **and** the batch file (ePanicButtonUpdate.bat) in the same folder
4. Right-click the batch file and choose Run as Administrator
5. Approve any UAC (User Account Control) prompts that appear
6. Restart the workstation if prompted
> **Tip:** You can copy this folder to a shared network drive and run the batch file on each workstation from there.
---
## Method B — Manual Update
Use this method if the batch file is unavailable or if a workstation needs a clean reinstall.
1. Go to **https://dash.epanicbutton.com/downloads/** and download the latest `.exe` installer
2. Right-click the `.exe` and choose **Run as Administrator**
3. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the update
4. Restart the workstation if prompted
5. Open the ePanicButton client and confirm it launches correctly
---
## After the Update
- The client should connect automatically — no manual "Update" click or reboot is required in Version 9.
- User profiles and button configurations sync automatically from the portal.
- Log in to the portal at **https://dash.epanicbutton.com** and confirm workstations show as connected under the **Users** tab.
---
## If the Update Did Not Complete
Update did not run
Right-click and choose **Run as Administrator**
Installation stops or hangs
Verify PowerShell is enabled on the workstation
Client won't open after update
Restart the workstation, then launch the client as Administrator
Antivirus blocked the update
Add exceptions for the ePanicButton executable files (.exe) found in ProgramFiles(x86)/epanicbutton
