# Creating Groups

Groups define the selection of buttons. If a device is in Group A, it has the Group A buttons. It does not define receivers, a button can go to any receiver, regardless of the group.

## When to Use Groups

- When you want to provide a different set of buttons to different groups of people. This may be for geographic reasons; messages may be sent from a particular office or location. It may also be role based such as buttons only sent from administrators.

## Accessing the Groups Tab

1. Log in to the portal at **https://dash.epanicbutton.com**
2. Click the **Groups** tab in the top navigation

## Creating a New Group

1. In the **Groups** tab, click **Add Group** (or the `+` icon)
2. Enter a **Group Name** (e.g., "Admin", "Clinical Staff", etc.)
3. The Default check box makes this group the default group that any new devices are added to the account. It can be changed so that a different group can be selected when installing that batch of devices. 
. Click **Save**

The group is created. Now add members to it.

## Adding Users to a Group

1. In the **Users** tab, selectd the user that you want to move. Remember that all newly installed devices will go into the default group.
2. Click **Edit**
3. From the Group drop down menu, select group that you want the user to join
4. Click **Save**

## Tips

- A device can only belong to one group. That group determines its buttons. 
- Groups has nothing to do with receivers. You can send to any receiver from any button, regardless of group.
