Action Required – ePanicButton Update to Version 9

In early May 2026, we rolled out a major new version (9.0.1.5) and successfully updated thousands of stations. Some or all of your stations may not have completed this update, most likely due to local permissions restrictions on those machines.

This support page will guide you through completing the update. Please act soon — the previous Version 8 family will be phased out shortly.

============================================
WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 9
============================================

- Improved connectivity to workstations via web sockets
- Ability to edit user profiles directly from the portal
- Auto-syncing of profile and button information — no reboot or manual "Update" click needed
- Fixes the hidden notification tray overlap issue
- Prepares your system for our upcoming Mobile app (coming later this Summer)

=================
POSSIBLE REMEDIES IF THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE DID NOT COMPLETE
=================

Each environment is different, so the remote update may not have finished on every machine.

Try the following steps:

1. Run as Administrator. A User Account Control (UAC) prompt may appear asking for permission — click Yes to allow the changes.

2. Ensure PowerShell is enabled on any machines that require the update.

3. Reboot the workstation to finalize the installation.

4. Launch the client as Administrator. If the app appears installed but is not working correctly, right-click ePanicClient in the Program Menu and select Run as Administrator.

5. Add an antivirus or firewall exception for the file below, which initiates the update when the application is relaunched or the machine reboots:

C:\Program Files (x86)\ePanicButton\Updater.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\ePanicButton\ePanicClient.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\ePanicButton\ePanicButtonReceiver.exe

BATCH FILE UPDATE METHOD (RECOMMENDED ALTERNATIVE)
=================

If the automatic update did not work, we offer a batch file that handles the full process for you. It temporarily saves your Registration ID, uninstalls the old version, and installs the new version — restoring your Registration ID automatically. No editing of the script is required.

If you wish for a batch file with the registrationID embedded in the script, please contact us.

Note: In Version 9, profile information is pulled down automatically from the portal, so no local profile data needs to be saved or restored during the update.

If you have your own deployment tools (e.g., SCCM, Intune), you can push this script through them. You are also welcome to open the script file to review its commands before running it.

Steps:

1) Download the latest .exe installer from:
   https://dash.epanicbutton.com/downloads/

2) Download the ePanicButtonUpdate.zip linked above and unzip.

3) Place both files — the installer (ePanicButtonInstaller.exe) and the batch file (ePanicButtonUpdate.bat) — in the same folder.

4) Right-click the batch file and select Run as Administrator.
   The script will run automatically, perform the full update, and launch the application when complete. A log of activity will be displayed in the window — error messages during the cleanup phase are normal and can be disregarded.

5) Reboot the workstation if prompted, or if the application does not launch correctly after the script completes.
